Water Safety Council

The Water Safety Council is currently seeking new or used life jackets for our loaner programs at both Southern Harbor Resort and Marina and Highland Marina Resort.  We are especially in need of life jackets in smaller sizes.

If you would like to make a donation, please drop us a note via the website or you can call (706) 884-5916.

Thanks to a grant from Boat US, the life jacket loaner program has been a tremendous success at both Highland Marina Resort as well as Southern Harbor Resort and Marina.

The local Resource Office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer has acquired funding to provide reflective information signs identifying the boat ramp's name for 25 locations.  The signs are now in place and are visible from the water as well as at night.

The Resource Office has also obtained donations to provide life jackets on the "loaner program" at each of the following parks:  Earl Cook Park, Rocky Point and Yellow Jacket.  The life jackets will be available spring of 2008 when the beaches reopen.

We are approaching the end of the 2nd year of our solar light project.  As you are aware, your WPLC donated 109 buoy lights for the main river channel through approval of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  This is a three year test program and we need your input to the Corps office that the lights have been beneficial to you and that you would like for the program to be continued and for future extensions to some of the larger creeks.
